The Leicester Gilbert & Sullivan Society is a local amateur operatic society. We rehearse on a weekly basis at St Phillip's Church Hall in Evington from September through to our show in March or April. For details of our current production, why not take a look at the link on the left? This year (2009-2010) sees the Society celebrating its 60th Anniversary of performing Gilbert & Sullivan operas and our stage is at Leicester's Little Theatre, in Dover Street.
The operas are scored for Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Baritone/Bass, although you do not have to be able to read music to join us. An informal audition is held at which you will be required to sing a short piece that you have prepared. If you are successful, we can order all the required music and libretto for you. The chorus draws members from in and around Leicestershire. At present we have around 35 playing members taking part in the current production, with more than 50 patrons and supporters of the Society. If you enjoy being part of a hardworking team but feel that your place is behind the scenes, there are many other ways in which you can help the Society. During show week we need a Front of House team to sell programmes and welcome the audience. If you would like to be involved back stage, we need a props and prompt team as well as help with wardrobe.
